Authorities refuse to sanction rally in memory of Boris Nemtsov in centre of Volgograd

The Volgograd administration did not sanction a rally in memory of Boris Nemtsov in the city centre with reference to an alleged need for cleaning and landscaping.

Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was killed in the centre of Moscow on February 27, 2015. Five natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia were sentenced in the case of his assassination.

Volgograd activist Daniel Kurakin said that a rally in memory of Boris Nemtsov was scheduled for a period from 12:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. on February 29 in the centre of Volgograd. It was assumed that 50 people would take part in the rally. However, today, a refusal has come from the City Mayoralty, Daniel Kurakin has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The city administration explained its refusal to sanction the rally by the fact that on February 29, cleaning works will be allegedly held in the venue in question with the involvement of specialized machines.

Meanwhile, the city administration invited activists to hold an action in front of the "Tsaritsynskaya Opera" Theatre on Metallurg Square in the Krasnooktyabrsky District of the city.

"We were invited to hold a rally at the 'Tsaritsynskaya Opera' Square. We'll think it over and make a decision. We will either hold solo pickets or organize a rally at the 'Tsaritsynskaya Opera' Square. Meanwhile, the venue is not the most convenient one," noted Daniela Kurakin.
