Dagestani Bar supports Sapiyat Magomedova

The qualification commission of the Dagestani Bar Association has stopped the disciplinary proceedings against the lawyer, Sapiyat Magomedova.

On February 3, Magomedova reported that the head of the investigation team, engaged in investigating the case of Ashikov brothers and Omar Abdurashidov, accused of financing terrorism, removed her from the case. In the investigators' opinion, Magomedova, who had earlier represented Omar Abdurashidov, cannot defend Raip and Ziyavudin Ashikov, because of a conflict of interests. She also became aware that late last year, the head of the investigation team appealed to the Ministry of Justice of Dagestan asking to bring her to disciplinary liability in connection with the fact that she had refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement on the data of the preliminary investigation. The lawyers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent treated the attempt to remove Magomedova out of this litigation as illegal.

Now Magomedova is removed from the case of Ashikov brothers and cannot take part in defending them.

The arrest of Raip Ashikov, a former head of the Makhachkala UVD (police department), and Ziyavudin Ashikov, a former acting head of the Kaspiysk police department, as well as Omar Abdurashidov, who figure in the case of financing terrorism and attempted murder of a law enforcer, was extended until February 11. Relatives and advocates of Omar Abdurashidov claim that he had been tortured with the aim of slandering the Ashikov brothers.
