Azerbaijan claims machine gun shelling attacks on front line

The positions of the Azerbaijani troops on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone were subjected to 23 shelling attacks within 24 hours, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported.

"Units of the armed forces of Armenia used heavy machine guns and 23 times violated the ceasefire in different directions of the front within 24 hours," the Azerbaijani MoD reported on its official website. It is noted that the fire came both from the Krasnoselsky District of Armenia and from the territories under the control of the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
