Kadyrov's words about alms to Dagestan underscore his ambitions

The words about Chechnya's readiness to hand the disputed land plots over to Dagestan were a Ramzan Kadyrov's attempt to reconcile, but to maintain the image of a strong leader, Caucasian scientists believe. Social network users have negatively perceived Kadyrov's "alms".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kadyrov had stated that Chechnya could transfer to Dagestan ten hectares of land, on which there is a dispute at court, if Dagestan asks for it.

Mikhail Roschin, an Orientalist, doesn't rule out that Kadyrov was advised not to heat up the situation around the two republics' border delimitation; therefore, he made this "conciliatory" statement.

Ramzan Kadyrov's statements are aimed at maintaining the image of a strong leader, said Akhmet Yarlykapov, an expert on the Caucasus.

This January, authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan agreed to demarcate their mutual administrative border. In April, the Dagestan public commission on demarcation pointed to eight large disputed land plots existing on the border with Chechnya.
