South-Ossetian law enforcers release 96-year-old resident of Georgia

Gora Garibashvili, detained on the border with South Ossetia, was released, the Georgian State Security Service reported on December 17.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gora Garibashvili, a resident of the village of Kvemo Chala, was detained on December 16. The man was detained in the South-Ossetian village of Tsunevi, where he wanted to visit a cemetery, report the authorities of the Georgian municipality of Kaspi, where Gora Garibashvili lives.

According to the Georgian State Security Service, law enforcers of South Ossetia handed over 96-year-old Gora Garibashvili to Georgia in the safety zone.

The Georgian side did not immediately succeed in finding out the whereabouts of the detainee, since the man was kept not in Tskhinvali, where all persons suspected of violating the border were usually taken, but at a police department of the border village of Akhalgori, the "InterPressNews" reported on December 17. Gora Garibashvili was released due to the mediation of the hotline to the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia), the "Echo of the Caucasus" reported on December 17.
