South-Ossetian border guards detain four residents of Georgia

In South Ossetia, border guards have detained four Georgian citizens engaged in firewood logging for violating the border regime.

One minor was released; materials on the others are prepared for sending to court.

The "Sputnik Georgia" reports with reference to Ekaterina Byazrova, the head of the press service of the KGB (Committee for State Security) of South Ossetia, that the Georgian residents were detained on December 7 in the vicinity of the village of Akhmadz of the Leningor District.

"These persons not only violated the state South-Ossetian-Georgian border, but, by hiding behind a child, tried to engage in illegal firewood logging in the territory of the republic," the "Res" South-Ossetian News Agency quotes the KGB source as saying.

This incident indicates the plight of residents of pre-border settlements caused by the inability of Georgian authorities to solve socioeconomic problems, the above agency further quotes the source.
