Azerbaijan claims shelling by Armenian snipers

The positions of Azerbaijani troops stationed on the border with Armenia and in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area were shelled for 24 times over the past 24 hours, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from the morning of December 5 to the morning of December 6, Azerbaijan counted 23 shelling attacks of its positions.

"Within the past 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire in various sections of the frontline for 24 times," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated on its website today.

The fire was delivered both from Armenia and from the territories controlled by the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities, says the message.

As of 11:45 a.m. Moscow time on December 7, no comments on this message had appeared on the websites of the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
