Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of 19 shelling attacks

Within last 24 hours, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army were shelled for 19 times, including from sniper rifles, the country's Ministry of Defence has stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 26, Azerbaijan reported machine-gun shelling attacks in the conflict zone, having counted 22 violations of the ceasefire regime for the last 24 hours.

"During the last 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated, by using sniper rifles, the ceasefire regime in various sections of the frontline for 19 times," the Azerbaijani MoD said in its statement today.

According to the MoD, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed in the village of Gyzylgadjyly in the Gazakh District came under fire.

As of 9:20 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh had not commented on this statement in their websites.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
