Miners stop protest action in Tkibuli

In the Georgian city of Tkibuli, workers of the Mindeli and Dzidziguri Mines, who demanded the payment of their wage debts, have stopped their protest action after meeting Natiya Turnava, the Minister of Economy.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 24, 15 miners from the Mindeli and Dzidziguri Mines located in Tkibuli went underground, refusing to get out to the surface until their wage debts for August were paid. On the following day, their protest was amplified by workers from Chiatura and Zestafoni, employees of the Mayoralty and schoolchildren.

On September 26, the miners striking in Tkibuli stopped their protest action, Tamaz Doloberidze, the chairman of the trade union of mining and metallurgical industry, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The decision was made after the strikers' meeting with the Minister of Economy, Natiya Turnava, which lasted two hours," he said.

After the meeting, it became known that the Steel International Trade Company will become the owner of Georgian coal mines; and it will take upon itself the payment of all the wage debts to miners, Mr Doloberidze has promised.
