Advocate complains to ECtHR about being tortured by law enforcers in Makhachkala

Magomed Magomedov, an advocate from Dagestan, said that he was beaten by law enforcers after he refused to leave his client alone with field investigators. Magomed Magomedov filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and called the law enforcers' actions the torture.

Today, Dagestani advocate Magomed Magomedov has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights with a complaint of being beaten by law enforcers, the human rights organization "Zona Prava" reports on its Twitter page.

The incident occurred in January in one of the departments of the Makhachkala district police, where the advocate appeared with his client concerning a case on a car theft, the human rights defenders report. The law enforcers demanded from the defender to leave, but after his refusal, they beat him, Magomed Magomedov himself said.

Investigators three times refused to institute criminal proceedings against the law enforcers, since they could not find out "under what circumstances Magomed Magomedov had been injured," the human rights defenders reported.

In his complaint to the ECtHR, Magomed Magomedov requests the European Court to recognize the use of force against him as torture.
