Courts abolish friendship declarations of French and NKR's communities

In France, courts have cancelled four friendship declarations signed by French and Karabakh cities. The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has welcomed the statements of the Mayors of the French cities of Valence, Bourg-les-Valence, Bourg-de-Péage and Arnaville about the intention to maintain friendly relations with their twin cities.

The friendship declarations had been signed by NKR cities with 12 cities and one department in France.

"The NKR's international ties will expand and deepen," the NKR's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has stated, believing that the above court decisions were lobbied by Azerbaijan.

According to Nicolas Daragon, Mayor of Valence, the judgements against friendship declarations will not affect the people's friendship. He has also expressed support for the NKR, noting that he supports its desire for self-determination.

In its turn, the Azerbaijani MFA has welcomed the decisions of French courts, believing that they show the importance of fulfilling international obligations, the "Sputnik-Azerbaijan" reports.
