Over 400 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh take part in patriotic march

In Nagorno-Karabakh, senior schoolchildren, students, and soldiers marched from Stepanakert in memory of the events associated with the liberation of Shushi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since 2012, the patriotic action has been held in Nagorno-Karabakh annually, at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Tourism and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh as a part of the programme "Following Heroes."

On May 9, 1992, the Armenian armed forces entered the city of Shushi, controlled by the Azerbaijani units. On May 12, the Armenian forces entered the city of Lachin, and as a result, Nagorno-Karabakh ceased to be an enclave within Azerbaijan.

On May 7, the march was held in four directions along which the advance on the city of Shushi developed in 1992, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

David Gukasyan, the head of the youth affairs department at the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Culture, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that since "the youth march took place in four directions ..., the participants received T-shirts in four colours to symbolize four directions."

Each group of the marchers was traditionally accompanied by veterans of the Karabakh war.

"We expected that 360 people included in the list will take part in the march. However, there were more people willing to march, and the number of participants reached 420," David Gukasyan said.
