Russians deported from Azerbaijan for religious propaganda
On January 10, nine Russian citizens were expelled from Azerbaijan for organizing illegal religious meetings.
Law enforcers detained the suspects in a house in the Binagadi District of Baku during a raid, in the course of which they seized five religious books professing Christianity, 113 CDs and 28,000 business cards.
The detainees have been fined, says the website of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that the US State Department and the European Commission to Combat Racism and Intolerance had stated problems in Azerbaijan with religious freedoms. Among those, who were persecuted in Azerbaijan, were the followers of Jehovah's Witnesses and members of Protestant communities.
