Ingush activists argue about CC's decision

Opponents of the border agreement with Chechnya stopped their protest rally in Magas after the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC) of Ingushetia; but they are ready to resume it, said its organizers. The CC's decision will not lead to cancellation of the border law, the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since October 4, a mass action against changing the border with Chechnya was held in Magas, the capital of Ingushetia. The action was interrupted to prepare the World Congress of the Ingush People. On October 31, protesters gathered again in Magas, but the organizers urged them to stop the action ahead of time and "go on acting within the legal field."

Sarazhdin Sultygov and Musa Albogachiev, the co-chairs of the "Mekhk Khel" movement, have stated that the termination of the rally nullified the previous two weeks of protests, since none of the demands had been met.

The issue of transferring Ingushetia territories to Chechnya remains open, since the Ingush authorities can neglect the CC's decision, Mr Sultygov is sure.

Musa Malsagov, a co-organizer of the rally in Magas, did not rule out the resumption of the action, "should the government transfer lands to Chechnya, which is anti-people and anti-constitutional."

Meanwhile, the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, noted that the republic's authorities cannot unilaterally repeal their law on the border.
