NKR celebrates Republic Day with march and concerts

Festivities on Republic Declaration Day were held in the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). It should unite with Armenia, the local residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.

The NKR was proclaimed on September 2, 1991; and on January 6, 1992, by the outcomes of the referendum, the NKR declared itself an independent state. However, Azerbaijan considers the NKR a part of its territory.

On September 2, Stepanakert and district centres hosted solemn and cultural events in honour of the 27th anniversary of the republic, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Participants of the march laid flowers in memory of perished soldiers. The festivities ended with a concert and fireworks.

A delegation from Armenia, as well as guests from Russia, arrived in the NKR.

"Our ultimate goal is a unified Armenian state," Ashot Gulyan, the Speaker of the NKR's Parliament, has stated.

Residents of Stepanakert also affirmed the need to achieve international recognition and reunite with Armenia.

Although the NKR has proclaimed itself a republic, but for the time being it can't be named independent, Yuri Sarkisyan, a resident of Stepanakert and the father of a soldier who died in the Karabakh War, believes.
