Resident of Dagestan convicted for belonging to militants

Russian court has found a resident of Dagestan to be a member of the "Makhachkala" armed grouping and sentenced him to 11 years in colony.

According to the verdict of the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala, the local resident also transferred money to another militant, thus financing his underground activities. He was found guilty under Parts 1 and 2, of Article 208 of the Russian Criminal Code.

The man will serve his sentence in a high security colony; and after his release, his freedom will be restricted for another year, the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office wrote on its website today.

The maximum term that threatened him is 20 years of imprisonment.
