A woman from Ingushetia suspected of involvement in Syrian militant grouping

A 24-year-old woman from Ingushetia is suspected of providing medical assistance to members of a terrorist organization in Syria, cooking food, washing clothes, and cleaning premises for them.

According to investigators, in September 2014, the suspect left for Syria, where in July 2015, she voluntarily joined an armed organization, recognized in Russia as a terrorist unit. "The woman is engaged in providing medical assistance to members of the terrorist organization, cooking food for them, repairing and washing their uniforms, and cleaning firearms and premises," reported the Investigating Department for Ingushetia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The young woman still stays in Syria among members of the terrorist organization, the ICRF's Department for Ingushetia noted.

A criminal case has been instituted against the suspect, reports the website of the ICRF's Department for Ingushetia.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Ingushetia, as of January 2017, since the beginning of the combat actions in Syria, about 200 residents of Ingushetia joined the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by the court's decision. Of them, 25% were killed, and ten persons returned to their homeland. In May 2017, Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov announced that five out of seven residents of the republic, earlier involved in the combat actions in Syria, returned to peaceful life.
