Authorities of Kabardino-Balkaria to introduce mountain ski police

The authorities of Kabardino-Balkaria are working on a project to create a ski patrol to ensure order at resorts in skiing areas, reports Murat Shogentsukov, Minister for Resorts and Tourism of the region.

According to him, other countries already have ski police. In particular, its duties include monitoring those skiers who ride outside prepared ski slopes. "In the past season, in front of hundreds of people, a skier provoked an avalanche in Azau Meadow. Luckily, that was a wet snow avalanche, otherwise, the consequences could be tragic," reported Murat Shogentsukov at a meeting of the Kabardino-Balkarian commission for the prevention and liquidation of emergencies held on May 23.

He has also noted that the Ministry for Resorts and Tourism regularly tries to resolve the issue to expand the functions of the anti-avalanche service.

This winter, rescuers repeatedly forcibly provoked avalanches in the most dangerous areas in the mountains of Kabardino-Balkaria. Meanwhile, on March 24, 12 avalanches and a mudflow occurred in the Elbrus Region.
