About 350 people take part in patriotic march in Nagorno-Karabakh

In Nagorno-Karabakh, a foot march was held in memory of the events related to the liberation of Shushi. Schoolchildren and students, accompanied by participants of military actions and war veterans, marched along the way of the movement of military units that took part in the storming of Shushi.

Nagorno-Karabakh celebrates the day of May 9 as a triple holiday: the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, the day of liberation of the Shushi city and the creation of the Defence Army. On May 9, 1992, Armenian armed forces entered the Shushi city, controlled by Azerbaijani units, from which, according to the Armenian side, Stepanakert was shelled from the beginning of the war. On May 12, Armenian units entered Lachin and as a result Nagorno-Karabakh ceased to be an enclave within Azerbaijan.

The patriotic action was held within the programme "Following the tracks of the heroes". Starting from 2012, it is held annually on the initiative of the Ministry for Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism of Nagorno-Karabakh.

This year, the youth's march took place in four directions, along which the city of Shushi was attacked in 1992, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

On their way to Shushi, the participants of the memorial action laid flowers to the monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and the Karabakh war. In the afternoon, all four directions united in Shushi near the Cathedral of Christ the Holy Saviour.
