In Derbent District, police disperse residents’ action from four villages

In the Derbent District of Dagestan, residents of four villages demanded to find a new place for a landfill. They blocked the road to garbage trucks and were dispersed by policemen. The district authorities have announced that the landfill will be moved to another place.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in March, after complaints filed by residents of the Derbent District, officials from the Dagestani Ministry for Natural Resources demanded from the Derbent Mayor's Office to close the city landfill operated with violations.

According to eyewitnesses, today, the participants of the protest action demanded from the communal services not to transport garbage to the landfill near their villages.

"The Derbent communal services violate the ecology of the district (they burn the garbage). The city has already faced a collapse. For the fourth day, the garbage is not removed from container sites," report the "My Derbent Plus" group in the social network "VKontakte".

According to the group, the police "used force to disperse the protest action." After that, the local residents gathered in front of the police station and voiced the demand to release the detained people.

In turn, the press service of the Derbent district administration reported that the leader of the Derbent District "had offered to hold meetings with residents every month to monitor the situation."
