Armenian MPs demand to recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh

Armenian parliamentarians have presented to the government the bill "On Recognition of the Republic of Artsakh". Its consideration is scheduled for May 5, said a governmental source.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 3 the respective initiative was put forward by Grant Bagratyan, a former Prime Minister of Armenia, now, a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) faction. On the same day, President Serzh Sargsyan announced his intention to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, if the military actions in this region grow into a large-scale warfare.

Apart from Bagratyan, the above bill was initiated by Zaruhi Postanjyan, an MP from the "Heritage" faction.

According to a source from the press service of the Armenian government, "the adoption of this law is caused by the outcomes of Armenia's discussions with Nagorno-Karabakh."

Let us remind you that earlier the recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh had been on the agenda of the Armenian Parliament, but was not approved.
