RKNK proposes to punish for justification of deportation of peoples

The Russian Congress of Peoples of the Caucasus (known as RKNK) has proposed to bring to criminal and administrative liability those persons who justify acts of repression against the peoples of Russia and hinders their rehabilitation.

The repressive Soviet domestic policy in the period of Joseph Stalin's rule and the deportation of entire peoples were "anti-human". This was stated by Aliy Totorkulov, Chair of the Presidium of the Russian Congress of Peoples of the Caucasus, as quoted by the "TASS".

The Chair of the RKNK has reminded that about 30 ethnic groups were accused of treason and subjected to forced displacement, although their natives fought bravely at the front during World War II. "To justify repression is a crime," Aliy Totorkulov has stressed.

In accordance with the Law "On Rehabilitation of Repressed Peoples", Russia does not allow agitation or propaganda to prevent the rehabilitation of repressed peoples. However, the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation do not stipulate the responsibility for the above actions.

Aliy Totorkulov has proposed to eliminate this gap. His initiative has been unanimously supported by the Presidium of the RKNK, states the message posted on the website of the Russian Congress of Peoples of the Caucasus on February 26.
