Supporters and opponents of constitutional reforms present their positions in Goris
Members from the front "Yes", who call on to support the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia, and members of the front "No", who oppose the constitutional amendments, have organized a meeting with students and teachers at the Goris State University.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the referendum on the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia is scheduled for December 6, 2015. On April 10, 2014, the preliminary version of the draft amendments to the Constitution was published. It considers the transition to the parliamentary system of government, under which the president would be elected by the parliament of the country for a term of seven years, without the right to be re-elected. The preparation for the referendum takes place against the background of protests.
At the meeting, Azat Arshakyan, a member of the front "No," a former deputy of the Supreme Council, has noted that Armenian citizens have no opportunity to get acquainted with the constitutional amendments. According to him, the new Constitution is an unconstitutional document, since it fails to contain any directions to improve the social and economic situation of the country.
Karine Achemyan, an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia, a member of the front "Yes", has emphasized that the constitutional reform will not change the social situation in the country within a single day. According to her, the changes will occur "eventually".
In turn, Arman Sagatelyan, the former presidential press secretary, a member of the front "Yes", has noted that the current Constitution does not allow the parliament and the people to recall prime minister or president in the case of loss of confidence in them.
