Resident of Chechnya suspected of selling baby

In Chechnya, the investigating authorities have started a criminal investigation into the case against a resident of Grozny suspected of illegal transfer of a minor child to other people's family.

According to the investigators, in autumn of 2014, a woman from Dagestan contacted her acquaintance in Grozny with a request to assist her in transferring her newborn daughter to a Chechen family. "The man contacted a family from the Grozny District, and in this January, he gave them a five-month-old girl. In fact, those actions were illegal, since they failed to comply with the law prescribing the legal procedure of adoption of children, and that was a criminal offense," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Paragraphs "b" and "h" of Part 2 of Article 217.1 of the Criminal Code against a resident of Grozny, who is suspected of selling a minor child.

According to the ICRF's official, the investigation into the circumstances of the case is underway.
