International observers characterize elections in Nagorno-Karabakh as democratic

The international observers, who arrived to the parliamentary elections in Nagorno-Karabakh from European countries, have noted their compliance with the international democratic standards. According to the leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, the statements made by the US and EU on their refusal to recognize the elections do not affect the democratic nature of the expression of the people's will.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 3, Nagorno-Karabakh held the voting at the parliamentary elections. According to an EU official, the EU does not intend to recognize the constitutional and regulatory framework for the elections. The US has also refused to recognize the parliamentary elections in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to MEP Frank Engel, who arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh as an observer, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh would prefer to build a democratic state without recognition than the recognition without democracy.

Eduardo Lorenzo Ochoa, the Director of the organization "European Friends of Armenia", has noted that Nagorno-Karabakh is a "shining example of" how democratic processes and traditions are developing.

According to French MP Francois Rochebloine, during the elections, he visited several electoral precincts, then attended the counting of votes and noticed no irregularities or tension.

In his turn, Albert Weiler, a member of the German Bundestag, has noted that he has been impressed by the elections and called them "truly democratic".
