Relatives of Tyrnyauz resident assert he was tortured by law enforcers

Relatives of Ruslan Etezov, a resident of the village of Tyrnyauz, have turned to rights defenders claiming that he was tortured and beating by law enforcers.

The 41-year-old Ruslan Etezov, a Category III invalid, after detention on March 18, was "placed into the SIZO (pre-trial prison) and charged with several crimes," said his mother Kelimat Etezova.

She asserts in her application that during inspecting her son's car law enforcers found "drugs, ammunition and a homemade grenade." Ruslan was "forced to sign a confession," because "physical force and torture with electric current were applied to him."

Currently, Ruslan Etezov is kept in SIZO-1 of the Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN).

On April 28, Etezov was visited by Magazali Endreev, the chairman of the republic's Public Oversight Commission (POC), and its members Irina Kishukova and Adam Medaliev, to whom the mother of the detainee had applied.

"Etezov was very nervous. He said he didn't want to meet the investigator. We convinced him to meet him, but in the presence of an advocate. Ruslan said that he was "framed", and that the weapons and drugs had been planted on him," Adam Medaliev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
