Three "Caucasian Knot" correspondents receive diplomas of contest in memory of Akhmednabiyev

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondents Svetlana Kravchenko, Fayik Medjid and Magomed Tuaev have been awarded with special diplomas of the contest held in honour of the Dagestani journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the awarding ceremony was held today in the House of Journalists. Elena Milashina, a correspondent of the "Novaya Gazeta", was announced to be the winner.

The above "Caucasian Knot" correspondents were decorated with special diplomas of the contest. Thus, Fayik Medjid was awarded for a series of articles covering the repressions applied last year to rights defenders, journalists and civil society activists in Azerbaijan.

The jury awarded a diploma to Svetlana Kravchenko, who told about the case of the builder of Olympic facilities in Sochi Mardiros Demerchyan, who stated that he had been tortured at the police. The builder's case attracted the attention of the opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who stated, three months before his death, that he would continue providing legal support to Demerchyan and his family. Demerchyan lost his case and was sentenced to 300 hours of public works.

A contest diploma was also awarded to Magomed Tuaev for a series of articles about the criminal prosecution of the Kislovodsk Imam Kurman-Ali Baichorov, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general security colony and a fine of 50,000 roubles on charges of illegal drug dealing.
