Elena Milashina wins contest in memory of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev (+video)

The first place in the contest in memory of the Dagestani journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev was awarded to Elena Milashina, a correspondent of the "Novaya Gazeta". The awarding ceremony was held on Friday, March 13, in the House of Journalists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the above annual award for journalists writing about the Caucasus was established on October 1, 2014, by the "Caucasian Knot" together with the Russian Union of Journalists in memory of the Dagestani journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev.

This year, experts assessed over 100 texts published by 20 journalists, who cover human rights and pressing social problems of Caucasian regions.

The first place was awarded to Elena Milashina for her article "Around the Fingers", published by the "Novaya Gazeta" on November 7, 2014, and telling about a principled refusal of Judge Vakhid Abubakarov to make judgment against the Chechen Suleiman Edigov under the pressure of a power agent.

The second place went to Zakir Magomedov, the author of the article "Victims of Customs", published in The New Times; and the third place went to Ilya Azar, a special correspondent of the "Medusa", for the material, "Kadyrov is sincerely unaware of human rights".
