Abkhazia calls UN to give objective appreciation to Georgia's actions

Sergey Shamba, Abkhazian Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent a letter to Zhang Esui, Chairman of the UN Security Council, because of the aggravation of the situation in the Abkhazian Gali District, which borders on Georgia.

According to the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIA), "the situation is hotter every day, and in the last two months Georgia committed 14 subversive and terrorist acts against Abkhazia." Minister Shamba has emphasizes that "the withdrawal of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CIS (CIS CPKF) out of the Safety Zone became an impetus for Georgian power agencies to new provocations."

"The Abkhazian party has repeatedly drawn attention of the international community to the fact that replacement of the CIS CPKF for EU observers will not solve the conflict zone safety problems," said the Minister.

In his opinion, "EU observers are not able to prevent terrorist attacks and, moreover, they cannot give an objective evaluation to Georgia's actions, which gives rise to deep doubts in the Abkhazian party as to their efficiency and chances to be constructive in prevention further conflicts."

The letter of Abkhazian MFA lists the "diversions and terror acts" committed within the recent two months in the Gali District:

Thus, on August 29, on the highway near Otobaya village, Gali District, a motor convoy of the Abkhazian MIA, which moved to change sentry, was blown up by a mine. There were no casualties or victims. On September 14, near the headquarters of CIS CPKF located in Chuburkhindzh village, Gali District, an "Ural" model car belonging to the headquarters was blown up, fortunately, without victims.

On September 25, a passenger car stuffed with explosive was blown up near the building of the Security Service of the Republic of Abkhazia. There were no casualties.

On October 6, master sergeant of frontier outpost Makhran Ashuba was killed by shelling from the Georgian territory, when he was in the border patrol. On that very day, in the city of Gali, unknown persons opened fire on the UAZ car carrying Odisher Tsomaya, head of the criminal investigation department of Gali ROVD (District Interior Unit), who received several wounds.

On October 12, in Otobaya village, Gali District, from a grenade launcher fired from the territory of Georgia the building of police station was shelled, fortunately, without casualties or destructions. On October 14, an electric substation located 200 meters off the "Ingur" checkpoint was undermined, also without victims; on the same day an armed attack was made on Beslan Chkoniya, militia head of Otobaya village; with gunshot wounds he was taken to Agudzeri hospital.

On October 22 in Gali, Eduard Emin-Zade, an employee of the Reconnaissance Department of the Ministry of Defence, and Eldar Shamugiya, former worker of the Gali ROVD, were killed. The suspects of this murder disappeared in the territory of Georgia.

On October 23, in the vicinity of Taglan village, Gali District, near the railway bridge, Zaur Kvekveskiri, a resident of Abkhazia, was killed. And on October 24, in Dikhazurga village, Gali District, unknown persons shot dead Roman Ashuba, a native of Gvada village, Ochamchyra District, who lived in Kokhora village, Tkuarchal District.

On October 25, in Pichora village, Gali District, the cars, in which servicemen Manuchar Gogiya and Guram Kvitsiniya were driving back to Frontier Outpost No. 9, were shelled by unknown persons from automatic firearms. Gogiya received three gunshot wounds.

On that very day, on October 25, 4 grenade launcher shots were fired from the Georgian side on the frontier outpost "Lekukhona". There were no casualties or victims. And on October 26, from the territory of Georgia Russian militaries were shelled who were on duty at the former Post No. 201 of the CIS CPKF (central bridge over Ingur River).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 25 President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili convoked an emergency sitting of the National Security Council in the context of the incident in the Tsalendzhikh District in Western Georgia, as a result of which Giya Meboniya, head of local administration, was killed.

We remind you that yesterday Muzhava village, Tsalendzhikh District of Georgia, was shelled; the Georgian party has accused Abkhazia of the incident. In his turn, Laurens Kogoniya, militia head of the Gali District of Abkhazia, has stated that Abkhazia has nothing to do with it.

On October 27, Georgia accused the Russian party of shelling its police post, deployed near the bridge over Inguri River. In the evening on October 26, this post was intensely shelled from grenade launchers and firearms.
