Karabakh conflict to be settled in May???

14:13, 04 May 2009

The USA are going to scale up efforts towards peaceful settlement of the Karabakh problem, as stated by State Secretary Hillary Clinton on April 22 at hearings in the House of Representatives of US Congress.

"We have assured the government of Azerbaijan that we plan to scale up efforts towards settlement of the Karabakh conflict and other disputes between Azerbaijan and Armenia," she said.

The head of the American Foreign Office has promised that the USA will take active part in the work of Minsk OSCE Group on Nagorno-Karabakh. Ms Clinton has also reminded that during the past three weeks the Department of State two times sent its representative to Azerbaijan within the efforts undertaken by the American party. "And we hope that some decision will (be found) next month," said Ms State Secretary.

It is interesting that the US representative was sent to Azerbaijan and never appeared in Armenia. What can that mean? Most likely, it means that by that time the problems with Armenia had been already settled, but some remained with Azerbaijan. Or, they are confident that there is nothing to settle with Armenia, no problems can arise here, while Azerbaijan needs to be persuaded, convinced, and it is necessary to bargain with it...
