New draft on freedom of information is being prepared

The Yeni Nesil journalist union and the human rights organization "Article 19" are drafting together a law "About Freedom of Information". This was reported by Yeni Nesil Chairman Arif Aliyev.

He pointed out that the law "About Freedom of Information" had been issued in 1998. However, the law is of declarative character and does not have an executive mechanism. Arif Aliyev explains the necessity to prepare the new law by the commitments of Azerbaijan to international organizations taken since 1998.
Aliyev thinks the law should be passed until the end of this year.

It will determine the mechanism of obtaining information. Today journalists are known to face serious difficulties in getting information, the press has no chance to demand that one source or another delivered information, said Arif Aliyev.
