NAC reports liquidation of 11 IS* units in Dagestan

In 2019, in Dagestan, the law enforcement bodies stopped activities of 11 secret units of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. This was reported by Igor Sirotkin, the deputy director of the Russian FSB and the chief of the administration of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

According to Igor Sirotkin, the terrorists' activities in the territory of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) decreased, "and the number of crimes of terrorist nature reduced by two times." "In Dagestan, the above crimes were prevented (in 2019)," announced Igor Sirotkin at a meeting of the NAC's Commission for Dagestan held on January 17.

Igor Sirotkin mentioned the prevention measures in the field of terrorism, including among young people, and the social rehabilitation of children returned from the combat action zones in Iraq and Syria, the NAC reported on its website on January 17.

The chief of the NAC's administration reported that in 2019, in Dagestan, the law enforcement bodies stopped the activities of 11 secret units of the "Islamic State"*, with more than 30 people as their members.

The IS* units operated in several regions of the republic, including in Buynaksk, Derbent, Kaspiysk, Kizlyar, and Makhachkala, Igor Sirotkin reported.
