Total fines imposed on "Memorial" amounts 4.5 million roubles

At the initiative of the Ingush branch of the Russian FSB, a court in Moscow has fined the "International Memorial" by 300,000 roubles. In total, the court has considered 22 protocols drawn up against "Memorial" structures leaders thereof for the absence of the marking "foreign agent" in their publications.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 9, following the consideration of 21 out of 28 protocols, the total amount of fines reached 4.2 million roubles.

Tamilla Imanova, a lawyer of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", told the court that a logo had been posted on the group's page indicating that it was part of the special project of the "International Memorial". The organization's website contains information about its status as a "foreign agent"; so there was no need to label the group in the social network, the defence insists. Besides, the lawyer said that the inclusion into the registry of "foreign agents" is humiliating for the "Memorial", which does not recognize it to be anybody's agent, and works to preserve the memory of the victims of repressions of the Soviet period.
