Law enforcer-figurant in torture case of Dagestani resident returned to SIZO

On December 26, the court ruled to return the operative criminal investigator, suspected of torturing Musa Aliev, from the house arrest into the SIZO (pre-trial prison). The court plans to consider the arrest of the second suspect.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 9 and 10, the court transferred both suspects of torturing Musa Aliev to house arrest. On December 13 and 19, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan quashed this ruling and decided to revise the freedom restriction measure for the above police officers.

According to Musa Aliev, the law enforcers beat him up, forcing him to confess to raping a girl; and then began threatening his family.

According to Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer of the Committee against Torture (CaT), the court decided to return the law enforcer to the SIZO. According to his story, such a measure will eliminate any pressure on the victim or his relatives.
