Social network users reproach Germany for soft reaction to Khangoshvili's murder

The German Chancellor has confirmed that the decision of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to expel two Russian diplomats had to do with the Russia's unwillingness to help in the investigation of the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. Social network users have expressed bewilderment at the absence of real sanctions against Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that German law enforcers decided to entrust the investigation into the Zelimkhan Khangoshvili's murder with the German General Prosecutor's Office due to a suspicion that "the Russian state or the government bodies of the Chechen Republic could give the order for the murder." On December 4, the German MFA declared non-grata of two employees of the Russian Embassy.

Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a native of the Pankisi Gorge, who took part in the second Chechen campaign, was shot dead in Berlin on August 23. A 49-year-old Russian citizen was arrested on suspicion of the murder. According to a number of signs, the arrested person is affiliated with the Russian special services, reported the Russian "The Insider", the journalistic group "Bellingcat", and the German Der Spiegel the results of their joint journalistic investigation.

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has stated in her comment to the expulsion of Russian diplomats that Moscow had failed to support the inquiry into Khangoshvili's murder.

Social network users have treated the measures taken by the German leadership as too soft.

"Oh, how toughly they've responded! In the toughest way possible!" the user Danun Ah wrote ironically under the video with news about the expulsion of diplomats on the YouTube channel of the German TV and radio company "Deutsche Welle in Russian".

Other social network users are sure that Russia was involved in this murder, and German measures demonstrate its "powerlessness."

"Europe is showing its powerlessness. Everything is obvious there [...] they're playing tolerance!" the user Lonely Traveller has commented the topic on the "Radio Marsho" YouTube channel.
