Volgograd Mayoralty responds to Isinbayeva's complaint to Putin

The Volgograd authorities promised to repair a sports school building in the city after Yelena Isinbayeva, two-time Olympic pole vault champion, complained to President Putin about "the disgusting state" of the school's premises and gym.

According to Yelena Isinbayeva, parents of children attending the sports school have to donate money to "somehow support the premises to secure that the roof does not collapse."

"This is a sports school of gymnastics, where I started to train. Today, my daughter goes to this school. The premises themselves, the sports hall itself came into a disgusting state: they require repairs. The municipality says that they are short of money ... and the regional authorities are not engaged. We hope the regional authorities will be able to allocate money for repairs," Yelena Isinbayeva addressed Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports held on October 10.

The Volgograd City Mayoralty commented on the fact that the school building underwent no repair for 44 years and promised to include it in the modernization programme.

"A month earlier, upon the instructions of Andrei Bocharov, Governor of the Volgograd Region, the Volgograd administration started surveying buildings used for children's activities to include them in the regional targeted modernization programme. According to the preliminary information, about 70 buildings should be included in the programme. One of them is the sports school building, about which the Olympic champion told the president," said the spokesperson of the Volgograd City Mayoralty as quoted today by the TASS.
