ECtHR awards 170,000 euros to relatives of people kidnapped in Ingushetia

An investigation into the case on kidnapping and murder in 2004 of Rashid Ozdoev, an employee of the Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia, and his friend Tamerlan Tsechoev, was conducted ineffectively, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decided.

The European Court obliged the Russian authorities to compensate families of the kidnapped people for moral damage.

The "Caucasian Knot" reports that Rashid Ozdoev, Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor of Ingushetia, and Tamerlan Tsechoev, were kidnapped by masked armed men on the Nazran-Malgobek highway on March 11, 2004. In 2008, Zurab, a brother of Rashid Tsechoev, filed a complaint to the ECtHR about the ineffective investigation into the case on kidnapping.

1According to the press service of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", the European Court recognized that the Russian authorities did not conduct a proper investigation into the case on kidnapping and murder of Rashid Ozdoev. The ECtHR carried out an investigation to find out the involvement of FSB officers in the disappearance of the people in Ingushetia. Tamerlan Tsechoev, a friend of Rashid Ozdoev, was in his car at the time of the attack.
