Political analysts explain informational closeness of authorities in Northern Caucasus

Refusal of direct elections of regional heads leads to informational closeness of the authorities, while the elites are not ready to live in an open society and their mentality does not comply with the realities of the 21st century. This opinion was voiced by political analysts when they were commenting on the low ratings of the information openness of the authorities in Northern Caucasus.

In the annual ranking, experts from the "Infometr" Centre mentioned the governments of the republics of Northern Caucasus as the most closed in Russia.

Political analyst Sergey Zhavoronkov explains the informational closeness of the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) by the fact that the local authorities are not interested in reporting their activities. Sergey Zhavoronkov believes that such factors as the clan (family) nature of the local authorities and the subsidies to the North-Caucasian republics' economies influence the information policy.
