Court leaves "Musavat" Party activist under arrest

Elman Guliev, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, sentenced to administrative arrest, declared an attempt to recruit him at a police detention centre. He made this statement during the consideration of his complaint about the arrest. The court has left the activist in custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 29, ten activists tried to hold a march in the Central Park of Baku, holding posters with a portrait of Azad Gasanov, a member of the "Musavat" Party. The police dispersed the action and detained the participants thereof. Later, everyone was released, except for Elman Guliev, who was administratively arrested by the court for 30 days on charges of disobeying the police.

The activist's complaint about his arrest was considered today at the Baku Court of Appeal.

At the session, Guliev told about an attempt to recruit him by a man, who introduced himself as a law enforcer.

"He offered me cooperation for a constant generous monetary reward, and other privileges. When I rejected his offer, he changed his tone and began threatening that after the administrative arrest I would be sent to prison for a long term on criminal charges," Guliev said.

In this regard, his advocate, Kyazimov, petitioned to strengthen Guliev's security and not to let strangers to him to the detention centre. However, the judge dismissed the petition.
