Stepanakert resident stops his hunger strike against social problems

Karen Grigoryan, a resident of Stepanakert, met the Ombudsman of Nagorno-Karabakh and officials who promised to fulfill his demands. The man stopped his hunger strike and complained about physical violence from law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 8, Karen Grigoryan, a 35-year-old unemployed resident of Stepanakert, a father of two children, announced an indefinite hunger strike with the demand for a meeting with Bako Saakyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh. The hunger-striker claimed that the goal of his protest action was to solve a number of social problems.

"Being satisfied with the explanations voiced by members of the government, Karen Grigoryan suspended his hunger strike," reported Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan.

Karen Grigoryan reported that law enforcers tried to prevent his hunger strike by force and he got injuries, the agency "Arcakh9.info" reports.

Marat Yeganyan, the editor-in-chief of the "Artcakh24.info", notes there are a lot of citizens dissatisfied with the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the number of such protest actions may increase sharply.

People are being pushed to protests by "the robbery of the authorities, which led to an uneven distribution of the national property," says public figure Arthur Osipyan.

The hunger strike as a form of social and political protest has become unprecedented for Nagorno-Karabakh, believes David Karabekyan, a political analyst and sociologist.
