Armenia: ex-MP Manvel Grigoryan transferred from hospital to prison

General Manvel Grigoryan, a former Armenian MP, the head of the "Erkrapa" Volunteers' Union, has been discharged from hospital. However, his condition remains grave, his advocates said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 27, the court denied the defence's petition asking to release Grigoryan on bail of 20,000 drams (over 40,000 US dollars).

Manvel Grigoryan was detained in June 2018 within the case of illegal weapons circulation and a large-scale theft. Law enforcers found firearms in his house. The Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, said that the retired general had embezzled the humanitarian aid intended for the army.

Arsen Mkrtchyan, an advocate, has assessed Mr Grigoryan's state of health as "very grave."

"There are no necessary hospital conditions in custody, and, naturally, he receives no appropriate treatment procedures," said the advocate.
