Mukhtarly complains about poor nutrition in Azerbaijani colony

Afghan Mukhtarly has asked his wife to voice out his appeal to Fikret Mamedov, the Azerbaijani Minister of Justice, inviting him to visit the colony, where the journalist is serving his sentence, and personally ask about the quality of prisoners' food.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 12, 2018, the court sentenced Afghan Mukhtarly to six years in prison on charges of illegally crossing the border, contraband and resisting a state official.

On January 30, Afghan Mukhtarly called his wife Leyla Mustafaeva, who is in political emigration in Germany, and asked her to disseminate in mass media his open appeal to Minister Fikret Mamedov concerning the poor nutrition of colony inmates.

The journalist asks the minister to visit Colony No. 16 located in a Baku suburb. "The Minister of Defence often dines with soldiers. Let the Minister of Justice Fikret Mamedov come to the colony, taste the food that inmates are eating and familiarize himself with inmates' custody conditions," Ms Mustafaeva has quoted her husband's words to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
