Pashinyan promises to preserve prices for Russian gas

Russian and Armenian gas suppliers will raise prices, but this will not affect tariffs for consumers in Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan has assured today after talks with the Russian president.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2015, the decision to raise electricity tariffs triggered mass protests in Armenia.

Nikol Pashinyan has today announced the talks with Vladimir Putin on the gas price, the "Armenpress" reports.

"Yesterday [on December 30] I had two telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The subject of these talks was the price for the gas supplied to Armenia; and in fact, we can say that we have found a solution, at least for the foreseeable future. There are two gas supply chain links: one is the Russian 'Gazprom' Company and the gas supplied to the 'Gazprom Armenia' Company, and the other is the gas distribution by the 'Gazprom Armenia' Company among our Armenian consumers," Mr Pashinyan said.

According to his story, the "Gazprom Armenia" and the "Gazprom" should reconsider the price for the supplied gas. "Some changes will occur in this price; and a certain increase thereof will occur. However, thanks to our internal regulations, the gas prices for Armenian consumers will not change," the "Armenpress" quotes Mr Pashinyan as saying.
