Azerbaijani journalist Ilkin Mamedli released from police

Journalist Ilkin Mamedli, detained in Baku after his address for a foreign passport, was released two days later without any charge, reported rights defender Samira Agaeva. According to her, the issue of lifting the ban on leaving Azerbaijan from Ilkin Mamedli remains open.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ilkin Mamedli was detained after on November 8, he contacted the ASAN service in the Bakikhanov village in Baku to get a foreign passport. The journalist was informed that he would not be able to get a passport, since a ban had been imposed on him for leaving the country. On November 8-9, relatives failed to get any explanation concerning the reasons for the detention of the activist.

"Ilkin Mamedli said that he was detained till clarification of the circumstances, since he was forbidden to leave the country three years ago during the Nardaran events, when he was arrested for 22 days. However, it turned out that there were no criminal proceedings against him personally," said Samira Agaeva, a lawyer and a rights defender, the deputy chair of the movement "D-18".

Earlier, Elshan Gasanov, the head of the Monitoring Centre for Political Prisoners, has associated the actions of the law enforcement bodies with the professional activities of the journalist.
