Georgian opposition reports disorientation of voters

The pre-election office of Grigol Vashadze, a Georgian presidential candidate, whose pre-election campaign is being led by the movement "United Opposition-Strength is in Unity", has expressed his dissatisfaction about being listed on the ballots as a candidate promoted by the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party. In response, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has noted that the party which registers a candidate should be indicated on the ballots.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the presidential election is scheduled in Georgia for October 28. The president will be elected for six years, and starting from 2024, in accordance with the constitutional amendments, the head of state will be elected by the parliament.

On October 17, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia decided to indicate in ballots that opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze was nominated by the "United National Movement" Party.

"The 'Georgian Dream' Party aims to disorient the voters, since the election campaign is being conducted on behalf of the movement 'Strength is in Unity'. However, the 'Georgian Dream' Party wants to present that as a struggle between two political parties," said Giorgi Vashadze, the head of the Grigol Vashadze's pre-election office, on the air of the "Rustavi 2" TV Company.

According to him, the CEC's decision will be challenged in court, although the oppositionists do not hope to win the lawsuit.
