North Ossetia's decision to combine mourning with Knowledge Day causes misunderstanding in Tskhinvali women

Residents of South Ossetia have supported the decision of the Republic's Ministry of Education and Sciences to postpone the Knowledge Day until September 5 in connection with the 14th anniversary of the terror act in Beslan. However, the Tskhinvali women, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", are surprised at the decision of North-Ossetian authorities to combine the funeral events with the start of the school year.

The authorities of North Ossetia decided not to postpone the start of the school year until September 4 because of the Day of Sorrow for the victims of the terror act in Beslan, despite the requests of local residents.

On September 1, 2004, a group of terrorists captured 1128 hostages in Beslan School No. 1. As a result of the terrorist attack, 334 people died, including 186 children.

As noted by Zarina Kokoeva, a teacher, "the Beslan tragedy is a pain for the entire Ossetian people."

Residents of the capital of South Ossetia believe that September 1-3 should be memorable days in the whole of North Ossetia, and not just in Beslan.

"Beslan is our common pain; I think these days should be mourning days in both North and South Ossetia, because this tragedy shocked not only the Ossetian people, but the whole world. We must remember it to prevent a repeat," Alyona Kisieva, a journalist, has stated.
