Orkhan Djemal buried in Moscow

The funeral of the journalist Orkhan Djemal, who, along with his two colleagues, was killed in the Central African Republic (CAR), was held at the Khovansky Cemetery of Moscow. Chechens, Ingushes, Dagestanis and other Muslim nations perceived him as a defender of their interests, the speakers at the funeral have stated.

Today, the farewell ceremony with Djemal was held at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

Orkhan Djemal, one of the founders of the Muslim Union of Russian Journalists, had commented for the "Caucasian Knot" the disappearance of the singer Zelimkhan Bakaev in Chechnya and the conflict of the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, with the Muftiate.

More than a hundred people took part in the ceremony of Djemal's burial. Condolences were expressed by several people; not all of them knew him personally.

One of the participants of the ceremony offered not only with words, but also with money to help the Djemal's family; and his friend Maxim Shevchenko expressed the idea of installing a monument in the form of a dagger stuck into the ground on Djemal's grave. Such a monument has already been installed on the grave of his father, Geidar Djemal.

A wreath was brought to the cemetery on behalf of the Azerbaijani Embassy to Russia.
