In Cherkessk, policeman suspected of beating a detainee

A district police inspector of the Department for Cherkessk of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is suspected of beating a detainee to obtain a confession and planting a material evidence on him, investigators reported.

According to the investigators, the district policeman brought a resident of Cherkessk to a police station without legal grounds, where he demanded from the detainee to confess to illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition. When the detainee refused, the policeman began to threaten the man and then hit him several times, and after that the detainee agreed to defame himself, the investigators found out. According to them, the district police inspector brought rounds and put them to a detainee's jacket. "After some time, the inspector brought in false witnesses and seized the above rounds in the presence of them," reported the Investigating Department for Karachay-Cherkessia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

A criminal case has been instituted against the policeman on abuse of power, the ICRF's Department for Karachay-Cherkessia reported on its website on August 2.
