A man sentenced in Zhirair Sefilyan's case goes on a hunger strike

Today, an advocate of Arthur Movsisyan, found guilty of transferring weapons to members of the movement "100th anniversary without regime", has reported that his client has started a hunger strike with a demand to release him from custody. 40 activists supported the Arthur Movsisyan's demand by blocking the entrance to the court building in Yerevan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 4, 2017, in Armenia, the court found Arthur Movsisyan guilty of storing and transferring weapons to supporters of oppositionist Zhirair Sefilyan. Arthur Movsisyan was sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

Today, in front of the Court of Cassation, activists have held an action in support of Arthur Movsisyan. According to the organizers, the protest action gathered 40 people. They blocked the entrance to the court building and demanded to change the pre-trial restriction measure for Arthur Movsisyan, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Arthur Movsisyan is the only person who remains behind bars in the Zhirair Sefilyan's case, fabricated at the request of the previous authorities, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by activist Gevorg Safaryan. "If the Court of Cassation ignores our demand, we will again block its building and let no one enter it," the activist said.

Arthur Movsisyan has declared an indefinite hunger strike with the demand to change the pre-trial restriction measure for him, his advocate Araik Papikyan has reported today. "My client suffers from a number of health problems, and the hunger strike will further complicate his condition," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
