Experts report mistakes in design of "Volgograd Arena" Stadium (+video)
A slope at the "Volgograd Arena" Stadium was subjected to erosion due to shortages of storm sewage system, reported Sergey Kamin, the director of the project "Construction of Stadium in Volgograd". Engineers should have calculated the reserve capacities of a storm sewage system, believes Igor Shkopinsky, the chairman of the board for the "Rosgrazhdanproekt" design and survey institute.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 15, two-month rainfall volume fell in Volgograd. The storm sewage system partially removed the water, but the remaining streams swept away the ground from slopes, including a slope near the "Volgograd Arena" Stadium, which was built specifically for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The erosion of the slope at the "Volgograd Arena" Stadium occurred due to the shortages of the storm sewage system, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was explained by Sergey Kamin, the director of the project "Construction of Stadium in Volgograd".
"A 1.5-month rainfall volume, which fell in Volgograd during several hours, showed the weak points of the storm sewage system, which failed to cope with such a load," said Sergey Kamin.
According to Igor Shkopinsky, the chairman of the board for the "Rosgrazhdanproekt" design and survey institute, the engineers should have calculated the reserve capacities of the storm sewage system.
"A zero system should have discharged all the drains. Besides, the anti-landslide measures and engineering protection of the territory should have been provided ... It is clear that there were violations in the design, exploration, and construction," Igor Shkopinsky said.
